It was Jonathan and my 11th wedding anniversary last Friday. For our 10th anniversary we hired a babysitter, we got all dressed up(including a corsage), and went to the fanciest restaurant I had ever been to. It was great!
This year was completely different and still great! We had just had a short vacation in Brainerd the week before. We started homeschool that week and neither of us had found time to buy each other a card before the big day. Jonathan ended up working an almost 12 hour day on our actual anniversary. So, he decided to get a babysitter for the next night so we could still celebrate at least a little.
We had nothing big planned but decided to hit the Mall of America. This time we left wearing t-shirts and jeans. We walked around the mall for a short time trying to scope out the food options and were approached by one of “those” people. You know, the kind that want you to take a “10 minute” survey. We decided to try it out, just this once. I was a little nervous being led by these weird guys to their “office”, but as long as Jonathan didn’t get to far away I knew I would be okay. They were kind of disappointed in me also. I was 30, and apparently they were looking for a 24 year old. (but yeah for me looking young!) We ended up having to watch some movie previews and answering questions for about 15-20 minutes. When we left they gave us each $2.(another added bonus)
That worked up our appetite so we went and ate at Famous Dave’s. We had been going back and forth on the idea of doing the ropes course set up at Nickelodeon Universe. It looked kind of fun but there were also a lot of younger kids doing it, so I thought it probably wouldn’t be as fun for us old fogies. We decided to go for it. It was actually a fun time. You get to walk up steps, across ladders, two by fours, and tight ropes while being harnessed in case you fall. The big challenge is to walk out on the plank and ring the bell. It is up pretty high, hanging out over the rides and was a little scary. We did it! (Jonathan did it- no problem) I wish I had some pictures to show but we couldn’t bring anything with us, so you’ll just have to use your imagination.
We had a good time together and now have another memory to add to the past 11 years worth and to the many more to come in the future.
