Lasagna. This has always been Jonathan’s favorite. The first time he had it was our first Valentine’s Day together.
It has usually been what I made when we have somebody over for dinner. One reason was because I didn’t know how to make many other things, and it always tastes good.
It is basically the same as the Betty Crocker Cookbook just a few changes.
1 lb. ground beef
3/4 cup chopped onion
1 clove garlic, minced or 1/8 tsp. garlic powder
1 can diced tomatoes (15 oz)
1 can tomato sauce (15 oz)
2 tblsp parsley
2 tblsp sugar
1 tsp. salt
1 tsp. basil
24 oz. cottage cheese
1/2 cup grated parmesan cheese
1 tblsp parsley
1 1/2 tsp. salt
1 tsp oregano
1 pkg. lasagna noodles (I usually use oven ready)
3/4 lb. mozzarella cheese, shredded
1/2 cup parmesan cheese
1.Cook and stir ground beef, onion and garlic until meat is brown and onion is tender. Drain off grease.
2.Add tomatoes, sauce, parsley, sugar, salt and basil. Heat to boiling, stirring occasionally. Reduce heat and simmer uncovered for 1 hour.
3.Mix cottage cheese, parsley, salt and oregano in separate bowl.
Layer in 9×13 pan. Start with a little sauce on the bottom(if using the oven-ready noodles), then noodles, cottage cheese mixture, mozzarella, then sauce. Usually about 3 layers. Bake at 350° for 45 minutes. (If you use the oven ready noodles cover with aluminum foil and then uncover for the last 10 minutes.) Cheese will be bubbly and a little brown when done.
I usually split this into two 9 inch pans and freeze one for later.
Rating: Most of the family loves it and I have had a few friends enjoy it also.
