Road Trip

We haven’t had too many big things planned this summer.  Jonathan had a trip planned to Dallas this week and I was still a little frightened to be home alone with recent happenings.  So, I decided to take advantage of that time and go visit some family… in Kansas…with the kids…by myself.  I do love to drive, and I’m with the kids all day any way.  No big deal, right.  Here’s how it all went down.

8:00 am-Leave the house.

8:05 am-Get gas. First melt down.  Tears over forgotten markers. “I’m Hungry”

9:00 am-Realized I forgot the dresses I ironed and hung in my closet.

9:30 am-1st potty break.  Snack time-pre-made popcorn. First audio book.

10:00 am-“Are we close to Kansas?”

10:20 am-Iowa. Corn. Nuff said.

10:30 am-Windmills, lots of them.  I guess that’s what you call a windmill farm.

11:30 am-2nd potty break and bonus play area.  “Adventures in Odyssey”

We pass the 4th windmill farm.  Pretty soon Iowa is going to take off.

12:30 pm-Des Moines. Break out the PBJ and carrot sticks.

1:00 pm-1st ear piercing scream from the back seat. 1st yell from Mom.

1:11 pm- Tylenol

3:00 pm-“Wind in the Willows” audio book.  Homemade peanut butter cookies-Yum!

4:15 pm-Missouri. 3rd potty break. Short Play time.

4:30 pm-Little ones take a snooze.

6:00 pm-Kansas!

6:30 pm-Stop for dinner in Ottowa, KS.  A quaint town, with no Chick-Fil-A 😦

8:30 pm-We made it!

“Are we there yet?” was asked MANY times on our 12 hour journey, along with “How long is an hour?”

My sanity was held intact and the kids were running crazy when we got here.  It was a long drive, but actually went pretty well.

We get to head back in a few days.  I’m going to go rest while I can.
