The Homeschool Mother’s Journal

In my life this week…

This week we celebrated my little boy’s 6th birthday. It was great to have some family visit for the special occasion. After his special day, I got sick. I had my first migraine and the next day had some bad back pain. I don’t know what was up, but I’m trying to eat better and drink a lot of water. So far, so good.

In our homeschool this week…

I did my best trying to get some school done this week. We are learning about the crusades this week. I don’t know if I totally blanked out my history classes, or what. I don’t remember learning about 1/2 the stuff I’m teaching. I am enjoying learning all over again and doing it alongside the kids.

I got Joel his first little chapter reader from the library to read to me this week. It is really encouraging to see him so eager to keep reading the next chapter.

My favorite thing this week…

Fall is my favorite season and this week has been abnormally warm. We had a picnic outside for lunch yesterday. It was wonderful. We sat in the warm sun in the middle of a school day. We watched the leaves blow down from the trees around us while we read the Famous Men of the Middle Ages. I cherish these days.

I’m reading…

Pride and Prejudice. It has been a favorite movie of mine, but I have never read the book. I thought I wouldn’t be able to get into it because I had watched the movie so many times, but I am really enjoying it. I really appreciate the details I can get from the book that aren’t found in the movie.

What the kids have been creating…

This weekend we went for a walk and happened upon a garage sale. We found some K’nex there and decided to get a little extra birthday gift. It was a great find! The kids have been having a lot of fun building.

We also found some new features on Photo Booth on our Mac, so the kids have been having fun with that too. Here’s a little sample of Nose Twirl.
