Homeschool Mother’s Journal: May 31, 2012

In my life this week…

This week started out great. With Memorial Day on Monday, Jonathan had 3 days off this week! We spent Memorial Day at the lake with some great friends. We soaked in the sun, swam, and went boating. The kids got their very first tube ride.

In our homeschool this week…

This week of school was cut short, with Jonathan’s days off, but we did manage to get some done these last few days. We started a new history read aloud, Carry on, Mr. Bowditch, which we are thoroughly enjoying. We have also been watching Liberty’s Kids, for something fun to go along with our U.S. History.

What’s working for us…

I’ve been taking my time teaching Joel math and going at his pace. It’s so great to be able to stop the workbook for a week and polish his math facts with flashcards and dice games.

Helpful homeschool tips to share…

Be flexible! When dad has a day off or grandma wants to take the kids for a couple of days, just do it. School can wait for a little while and sometimes those days off or visits are rare. Soak them up!

I’m reading…

I just started reading Bloodlines: Race, Cross, and the Christian by John Piper. To see what the rest of the family is reading click on the Books Worth Reading tab at the top to of the page.

I’m cooking…

My big cooking adventure this week was the crock pot artisan bread. It’s almost gone, so I may have to whip up another batch soon.

Our weekend…

Today we’ll do another regular day of school, ending with our weekly trip to the library. It looks like a nice weekend, so we may spend some time at the pool. Maybe, just maybe, well get our pictures hung…

Do you have any big plans this weekend?

  1. Polly, thank you for visiting my blog. I’m always happy to see new visitors and new comments. I’m joining you in schooling through June. We get our day started much too late. I’m going to mend that for 8th grade.
