Journey to a Healthier Me: Healthy Snacks

Since changing to living a healthier lifestyle, many things had to change in my diet. One of those things was snacks. I had to change my serving size of snacks. I could no longer eat three chocolate chip cookies in the afternoon. One might be okay, but I also had to think about what would be healthier.

Finding something healthier to eat is easy. You can always pick up some fruit and vegetables and they’ll fill you up with good things. Finding something healthy and that tastes good can be a little harder. If I want this to be a life long change I need to find food that’s good for me and I enjoy.

Today I thought I’d share one of my favorite snacks. This is not a new idea, but maybe not something you thought of making at home.

The basics to this snack are Greek Yogurt and fruit. I usually like using fresh berries, but sometimes I use my homemade strawberry jam. Then I like to put some cereal with it like granola or Grape Nuts. If you’re not using a jam you may want to add a little honey to sweeten it, especially if you have plain yogurt.

  • greek yogurt
  • fresh berries or jam
  • cereal
  • honey

I also like making smoothies with my greek yogurt and berries.

  • Greek yogurt
  • banana
  • fresh or frozen berries
  • flax-seed
  • milk
  • honey

My kids always beg me to get the fruity yogurt at the grocery store which  usually have High Fructose Corn Syrup in them. We try to avoid that ingredient in our home, so making our own fruity yogurt is a great alternative that the kids still like to eat.

These snacks can also be great for breakfast.

What is your favorite healthy snack?

This week I finished my 9 week training with my Get Running App. It feels great to have accomplished this goal.

Weight 2 weeks ago: 157 lbs.

Weight this week: 154.5 lbs.

Total weight loss this year: 29.5 lbs.

  2. Thanks, Mir! I can’t wait until I actually hit 30, hopefully next week.
You could. I’m sure it would be helpful and encouraging to other mom’s.
