This year I am working towards Joy. I know that if I am going to live out this word, JOY, I need God as my foundation.
He is the creator of Joy and has given me joy through the fruits of the spirit.(Gal. 5:22) I need to realize He is where I get my joy, not the stuff of this world.
Send out your light and your truth;
let them lead me;
let them bring me to your holy hill
and to your dwelling!
Then I will go to the altar of God,
to God my exceeding joy,
and I will praise you with the lyre,
O God, my God.
Psalm 43:3-4 (ESV)
I know to have Joy I will need to know my God and depend on him.
How will I do this?
- Reading the Bible daily– I have been studying Genesis for my Bible Study Fellowship class, but at the start of this year I also started reading the M’Cheyne Bible reading plan. It is amazing to me how many times you can read through a passage in the Bible and still learn things from it. It is truly a living word inspired by God.
- Memorizing the Bible– Our church is very encouraging in memorizing God’s Word, starting in the Nursery all the way up. The weekly verses we learn we call Fighter Verses, to fight the fight of faith. I am working on memorizing our fighter verses this year along with my family. I know keeping His Word in my heart will help me fight for joy.
- Prayer- When I cast my cares and anxieties on Him I will have more peace, than when I try to figure it all out on my own. I also want to be more intentional in praising Him for his goodness. Taking my eyes off myself and looking to Him always seems to bring more joy.
- Meditation/Quiet/Stillness– This one is going to be hard work for me. My aim is to be still during parts of my day, to take those moments to be quiet before God. I want to be able to hear Him and I know I can listen better when I am still and quiet. I also want to meditate on God’s goodness throughout the day.
I have to admit I’m excited to see what God does in my life this year as I pursue joy. I am also a little nervous, because I know that growth isn’t easy. Yet, God is good.
How are you pursuing God as you try and achieve your goals this year?
