I Was Hacked

broken door

Yesterday, I came up with an idea for a new blog post. So, of course, I had seize the opportunity and type it in before the idea went off to no-mans land.

I typed in AverageHousewife.com

And nothing happened, not a sound. (Have you ever read The Very Quiet Cricket?)

The page was blank. No 404. No error. Just a white page.

Let me tell you, that is not what you want to see when you have worked on 300 posts, images, code, etc.

I called my IT guy, who just happened to be downstairs and got him on it. He’s pretty helpful when I don’t know what I’m doing, but even he didn’t know how to fix this problem.

We had been hacked.

My husband was on the phone and computer on and off all day and still had no solution. He is blessed to “know a guy” and this guy helped us tremendously.

After a day of wondering if I’d lost the last 5 years of blogging, the verdict is in. It’s all back where it’s supposed to be for now. I am extremely happy and so thankful for the help that God provided for us.

It was a great test for me. Last year if this would have happened, I would have been in tears. I would have panicked.

God has done a work in me and released me from my blog identity. I don’t identify myself by my blog anymore, although I still enjoy doing it. If it crashes or pictures aren’t working, it’s okay. It will fail again and someday it will be gone, but my God will still be my God forever. He is where my hope and joy come from.

Do not lay up for yourselves treasures on earth, where moth and rust destroy and where thieves break in and steal, but lay up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where neither moth nor rust destroys and where thieves do not break in and steal. For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also.

  1. I recently had a scare where I thought I had lost the last 8 years of blogging. It scared me! All those pictures and stories and memories . . . just gone. I am glad that you were able to get everything back.
