I am a people pleaser. I want your approval. I want to hear you say nice things about me. I want you to think good things about me. If I even get a notion that you don’t approve of me, I will consider how I can change to make you like me or I may distance myself from you. That is so different than how Jesus thought.

John 2:23-25

Now when He was in Jerusalem at the Passover Feast, many believed in His name when they saw the signs that He was doing. But Jesus on His part did not entrust Himself to them, because He knew all people and needed no one to bear witness about man, for He Himself knew what was in man.

He didn’t entrust Himself to them because He knew all the people. He knew what was in man.

He knew who these people were. He knew them to their core. He knew their hearts, where they came from, what they had done, and where they would go next. He knew what would happen when the signs were gone.  He knew their praise wasn’t why he was here. He was here to be obedient to the Father. What the Father thought was the only thing that mattered.

How different my life would look if I remembered who the people around me were, sinners just like me.

How different my life would look if I remembered the God who made me, why He made me, and lived only for His purposes.
