Journey to a Healthier Me : Motivation

This is my first official post of my journey to getting healthier. I’ll be posting every Wednesday about how I’m doing, what I’m doing, my weigh in, and some tips or such.

I thought I’d take these first couple weeks to write about my motivations. It’s important to know what motivates you as you progress with your goal. Then when you have a day of discouragement or are wanting to quit you can look back at these and remember why you started. So, lets start with why I ultimately got motivated to start this year.

I’ve been overweight forever, at least that’s what it feels like. I’ve never been a skinny girl. So why is this year different?

At the beginning of this year I realized it was time to reset. I was discouraged and overwhelmed in many areas of my life and needed to reassess. Using Michael Hyatt’s ebook, Creating Your Personal Life Plan, I looked at every aspect of my life including health.  I wrote down my current reality, what I wish I was doing, and ways I would get there. The reality was that I wasn’t working on being healthy at all. I ate what I wanted, when I wanted and was not exercising at all.

After filling out my life plan, I took my first step. I went on to Sparkpeople.com and filled in my information to calculate my BMI. It was higher than it had ever been. I was no longer just a little overweight, I was bordering on obese.

This was not acceptable to me and I knew it was time to change.

My starting weight in January : 184 pounds

My weight today: 172.5 pounds

Total loss: 11.5 pounds

What’s one thing you have done this week to promote a healthier body?

  1. Proud of you, Paula!
I started my healthy living goals January of 2011. Some days I feel it’s been a slow journey. But now I’m on the home stretch. I’m finally able to see my lifestyle has truly changed. I’m making better choices instinctively now. It’s actually possible! yet some days, I still don’t believe it…
One thing I’ve done this week? drank water exclusively. even with Izze’s in the fridge. 🙂

(If you ever want to link this up to a wonderful healthy lifestyle link-up meme, let me know! I know a good one…)

  2. Thanks for linking up with Weight Loss Wednesday! Great start on your weight loss – keep on keeping on!!! One thing I have done this week to promote a healthier body is staying on plan with my calories – and weighing everyday to remind me where I am!
